The past couple years have been a turbulent time for women, communities of color, and LGBTQ+ folks. Recently we’ve seen increased incidents that may have undermined our sense of safety: attacks on the LGBTQ community and immigrants, #MeToo reports of epidemic sexual harassment and assault for women in all sectors, a rise in intimate partner violence, as well as multiple mass shootings. Safety continues to be a growing concern for many marginalized people. But we are also taking a stand and fighting back, supporting each other, and in many cases triumphing -- as we did during the midterm elections with historic wins for women of color.
As Jiu-jitsu martial artists, we are joining the fight by offering our knowledge to empower and strengthen our community. Starting in 2019, Tuff Love Fitness Collective, Sweaty Betties and FOUR Elements Fitness are joining forces to help end violence against women and girls, particularly among the underprivileged communities. We are collaborating to offer scholarships to a MONTHLY WOMEN'S SELF-DEFENSE WORKSHOPS. Our goal is to provide FREE self-defense training for girls and women at FOUR Elements Fitness in Oakland, CA.
Sponsorship application for the February Women’s Self-defense Workshop is open now and the deadline is Jan.25. 2019. Scholarships are first come, first served basis with limited amount per month. Must be girls or women of color and ages 9+ to apply. No experience required to attend workshop. We reserve the right to close applications when full capacity are reached. If you or anyone you know are interested in a life-changing opportunity, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
